Input data were: the layout of the competition area- it’s frame; the volume of the competition area with existing buildings and the interspaces; existing connections and paths (public transportation, cars, pedestrian..), and the space requirements of the programme. In the “melting pot” of the design process these inputs are processed with the idea to overcome drawbacks of present campus in terms of isolation, poor services, heavy zoning, and domination of cars.. In order to make Aalto campus new regional social center ,easily and frequently approached and visited , not only by students- project proposal is aimed at creating as much public spaces, meeting places and connections as possible. This is done by specific physical framing and distribution of programmme. Physical setup is based on following steps: 1. Three buildings are set in three blocs. Their spatial position and orientation is determined by the existing buildings: Aalto’s former university of technology, VTT, and laboratory building 2. Interspaces bounded by these three main volumes are “captured” at four levels, and becomes social meeting place with different gradient of public character on different levels. The underground and ground levels feature as public spaces in broader sense, connecting neighborhoods of Otaniemi as open and semi-open two –levels square. First and second level become meeting and interconnecting spaces of university itself 3. These public levels are designed with “open space” character while physical connections are achieved by numerous ramps, staircases and bridges
